Who is behind Pink Fish?

Sarah Harrill founded Pink Fish Privacy Films in 2023 from Vancouver Island.

She has a BFA in glass and conceptual art, and spent years working in the glass industry before this. She has never quite gotten over what happens when light passes through something and comes out the other side softened. That is the entire reason this business exists, honestly. Glass has been her material for her whole adult life.

When you email Pink Fish, it comes right to us. Not a help desk and not a chatbot. If you send us your window measurements and ask whether they look right, we will actually check them with you.

Why we started

Look at how homes are being built now. Beautiful big windows, and the neighbour's kitchen sink is fifteen feet away. Front doors with tall glass panels down both sides, so anyone standing on the step can see straight down the hallway. Bathroom windows facing the street. Basement suites sitting right at eye level with the sidewalk. Newer subdivisions where the houses are close enough to pass the sugar across.

We have all ended up a little more on display than we used to be. And the usual fix is to cover the window completely and lose the daylight you paid good money for.

Sarah wanted privacy that did not mean living in the dark, and she wanted it to look intentional rather than like a temporary fix. So she tested a lot of films on her own windows, chose the ones that actually held up and actually looked like quality, and started cutting them to size for other people.

What we sell

We carry seven privacy films. They all do the same basic job, which is blur the view without blocking the daylight. They just do it with a different look, so the choice comes down to what suits your room.

Classic Reeded
Clear vertical ribs, exactly like the reeded glass showing up in every kitchen renovation lately. Blurs shapes and keeps the room bright. Our best seller by a mile. Best for front door sidelights, kitchen windows, cabinet doors and interior glass.

Amber Reeded
The same ribbed texture with a warm golden tone running through it. Makes an ordinary window look like late afternoon all day long. Best for dining rooms, entryways, stair landings and cabinet glass.

Frosty Reeded
A frosted finish with the reeded ribs running through it, so you get the texture and a good deal of coverage at the same time. Best for bathrooms, ensuites, shower panels and laundry rooms.

Smokey Reeded
The ribbed texture again, this time in a soft cool grey. Quiet, and a bit more modern. It reads as very deliberate. Best for offices, dens, bathroom windows and glass doors.

Smooth Satin Frosted
Clean, smooth, and the closest thing we carry to professionally etched glass. Because the surface is smooth rather than textured, it gives the most privacy after dark of any film we sell. Best for ground floor bathrooms, bedrooms and street-facing windows.

Amber Frosted
Smooth, no texture, with the same warm golden cast. Think frosted glass that somebody left the sunshine in. Best for bedrooms, bathrooms and west-facing windows.

Blue Iridescent
When the sun hits it properly it throws rainbows across the floor and up the walls. It is also a one-way mirror film, so through the day it reflects on the outside while you can still see out. Worth knowing: it is the only film we carry that leaves a little adhesive behind on removal, and a splash of rubbing alcohol sorts that out. Best for sunrooms, stairwells, kids' rooms and anywhere with good afternoon sun.

One honest note about night privacy

The reeded films are designed to keep your light, which means they are not fully opaque. In the evening with your lamps on, someone outside would see soft, blurry shapes rather than anything clear. Most people are perfectly happy with that, and a sheer curtain settles it completely. If what you want is proper coverage after dark, go with the Smooth Satin Frosted. We would rather tell you that up front than have you disappointed when it arrives.

What makes our film different

We select it, we do not mass produce it. We are not a factory. We source and test film, keep the ones that hold up, and drop the ones that do not. Every roll we sell has been tested on our windows first.

Cut by hand to your size. To the nearest eighth of an inch, on a table on Vancouver Island, one order at a time. You are not buying a standard roll and trimming it yourself, unless you want to.

Self-adhesive, installed with soapy water. You spray the glass with a little soapy water first, which lets you slide the film into position before it grabs. That means your first attempt is not your only attempt. Squeegee the water out, trim the edges, done. Most windows take about twenty minutes.

It lasts five to ten years and comes off when you want a change. Six of our seven films remove cleanly with no residue.

Samples exist for a reason. You can order a sample of any film and hold it against your own glass, in your own light, before committing. It is the cheapest way to get this right.

Where we ship

Pink Fish ships across Canada and to the United States.

Common questions

Is Pink Fish Privacy Films a Canadian company?

Yes. Pink Fish Privacy Films is Canadian owned and operated, based in Langford, British Columbia, on Vancouver Island. It is a women-founded business.

Does privacy window film work at night?

It depends on the finish. Smooth films such as Smooth Satin Frosted and Amber Frosted give the most coverage after dark. Reeded films are designed to preserve daylight, so with interior lights on they show soft blurred shapes rather than clear detail. A sheer curtain resolves this completely.

Is the film removable?

Yes. Our films have a five to ten year lifespan and peel off when you want a change. Six of the seven remove with no adhesive residue. Blue Iridescent leaves a small amount, which comes off with isopropyl alcohol.

How is the film installed?

The film is self-adhesive and applied with a wet install. You measure the glass itself rather than the frame, spray the glass with soapy water, slide the film into position, squeegee the water out and trim the edges. Most windows take around twenty minutes and no professional installer is needed. Check out our How to install page!

Can I order a custom size?

Yes. Every order can be cut to size, and we cut to the nearest eighth of an inch. If your window is an unusual shape or you are not sure how to measure it, send the numbers over and we will check them with you before cutting.

Can I see the film before I buy it?

Yes. Samples are available for every film and can be ordered from each product page. Screens do not show texture or tone accurately, so holding a sample against your own glass in your own light is the most reliable way to choose.

Do you ship to the United States?

Yes. We ship to the United States with duties and import fees included, so your order arrives without an unexpected charge on delivery.

Frequently Asked Questions

Avoid ammonia based cleaners such as Windex as that can degrade the material faster. Use a soap and water solution and a microfiber cloth or paper towel for best results.

No problem! We’re real people who actually care. Contact us anytime and we’ll help you figure out the best match (reeded for that trendy ribbed look, frosted for maximum privacy, or iridescent for funky daytime sparkle). Send a quick photo or description of your space and we’ll guide you.

Daytime privacy is excellent across the board. There are many environmental factors at play when discussing privacy including lighting, distance from the window, and type of film. At night, when lights are on inside, most privacy films (including frosted and reeded) turn views into soft shadows or blobs rather than clear silhouettes. Our Iridescent film will not provide nighttime privacy as mentioned in the listing. For maximum night privacy, we recommend pairing any film with curtains or sheer layers, just like many customers do if there is a big concern. It will always depend on the variables mentioned above and we are happy to help you understand them further, just contact us.

We offer a 30 day Installation Success Guarantee. If you follow our step-by-step installation guide (included with every order and found here) and encounter issues like big bubbles, wrinkles or poor adhesion within 30 days of delivery:
• Email us a photo of the issue and your order number.
• We’ll review it within 48 business hours and, if it qualifies, ship you a free replacement roll of the same film piece at no extra cost.

Absolutely. Every film is designed for easy, damage-free removal. All our reeded and frosted films peel clean. The Iridescent film is a more technical solar film therefore can adhere stronger than the rest however with a little heat and rubbing alcohol it will come clean as well. We stand behind them with our **30-day Installation Success Guarantee**: if you run into big bubbles, wrinkles, or adhesion issues within 30 days (and followed the guide), we’ll ship a free replacement roll of the same film at no extra cost.

Reeded Glass Texture (Classic, Amber, Grey, Frosted): Gives that modern, ribbed elegance that mimics real fluted glass. Trendy, upscale, and great for minimally hiding views while keeping rooms bright.

Iridescent Reflective: Daytime one-way privacy with a stunning blue sheen, colorful projection in direct sunlight. Modern and jewelry-like

All are fully removable with zero (or minimal) residue therefore are renter-friendly, and let light and seclusion coexist perfectly without the cost or hassle of real glass or blinds.

Yes! We are happy to provide custom sizes to fit your windows exactly (to the nearest 1/8"). Find that option in the menu bar or click the button on our main page.

It is highly unlikely that any of our products will be absorbing enough heat to cause tension in the glass and therefore breaking it.

Our films are built to last 5–10 years in normal, interior conditions. Most of our films are made of PET (polyester). All are hand-cut on Vancouver Island, Canada, and come with our Installation Success Guarantee

Not at all! This film blurs the view without any reduction in light. Perfect for adding privacy to your windows without feeling closed in.

Effortlessly straightforward: Apply in minutes with soapy water and a squeegee. Designed to last 5-10 years in various environments. Fully removable without damage, though long-term exposure on sun-facing windows may require a bit more effort and a simple tool like a scraper, ensuring it peels clean every time.

It works by light reflecting off of it, which makes it a great daytime privacy option to still see out but block the views from coming in. Pair it with curtains for after dark.

The answer depends on the type of film.

PVC films may slowly shrink or lift at the edges over time in direct sunlight. UV rays and heat cause the plasticizers in the PVC to break down, which reduces dimensional stability.

PET films (which are what most of our films are made of) are made of a more stable polyester material with excellent UV resistance and very low thermal shrinkage. It holds up much better on sunny south-facing windows (the hottest) with minimal risk of shrinking.

This is why our films are of the highest quality!
